Girl power! The female-led Doppler winery is based in Northeast Slovenia near the Austrian border. Mother Michaela works with her three daughters to produce the wine but credits her grandfather, who bought the estate in 1938, with teaching her everything she knows.
The vineyards extend to 9 ha on clay/limestone soils. With 2,000 sunshine hours and 1,000 mm of rain per year, the night and day temperature variations create bright fruit flavours in the wine. The estate converted to organic in 2021 so will shortly be certified; however, they haven’t used pesticides for nine years.
