Autumn is a time to embrace warmth, comfort and rich flavours, and the wines you choose should reflect that. The transition from lighter summer wines to deeper, more complex bottles reflects the natural shift in our appetites. Autumn wines often feature warmer, earthier notes that complement the heartier foods of the season (think roasted vegetables, stews and warm spices). Wines that showcase fruit but maintain enough structure and acidity to balance these richer flavours will always be in demand during the autumn months. Check out some of our Autumn collection to bring a little extra warmth to your table.
Our Walt Pinot Noir has an excellent depth of black fruit as well as blueberries and redcurrants. It’s smokey spiciness pairs very well with game dishes and, as it’s suitable for vegans, can complement a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Or why not try a full-flavoured and refreshing Grenache Blanc that goes well with Mediterranean autumn-inspired dishes or enjoy a chilled glass with hummus and veggie dippers!
Recommended Autumn Chardonnay’s are from France and South Africa and suit a range of budgets. Rustenberg, Simonsberg and Tokara Reserve, Stellenbosch are our favourites from South Africa, balancing acidity with well-integrated oak. Icare, Côtes de Thongue and Mâcon-Bussières, Burgundy, make up our French offering, and both are vegan friendly.
Rounding off with a few fruity reds, we have the Petite Immortelle blend of mostly Syrah grapes, Les Nuits de Paraza, a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, and our ever-popular Gougenheim Malbec, a delicious Argentinian wine from the Uco Valley in Mendoza, which is renowned for producing some of the world’s best Malbecs.
For something a bit different while you are relaxing by the fire, why not try Barbadillo Oloroso with its smooth toffee, caramel and vanilla notes. And after dinner you have a choice between Blandy’s Duke of Cumberland Madeira or a rich and flavourful Portal LBV. Cheeseboard, anyone?
